Greater Lansing

These are in no particular order, just all amazing coffee shops that we want to share with you! Most of these places have been featured on our socials or in one of our newsletters. Check and see what one’s you have visited and what one’s you still have to try; you never know what one you’d like more if you don’t try them all! A surprise awaits you at the end if you can make it there!
1. Poindexter Coffee
Starting the list off strong with this coffee shop on the first floor of the Graduate Hotel on Grand River Road!
This cute and chic coffee shop has an awesome atmosphere to have a chat, get some work done, or to just drop in for a coffee to go!
This is also a cute place to take some photos if you are looking for anywhere with an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. You don’t even want to know how many photos were taken of this one cup of coffee…
They also have some more menu items that would definitely catch your eye and keep your stomach pleased.
If you haven’t tried Poindexter Coffee yet, it is definitely something to consider putting on the to-do list, right next to the actual to-do list… that we all have probably been procrastinating for quite some time!
But no worries, Poindexter Coffee is open for us every day, 7:00am -1:00pm, 3:00pm on Friday and Saturday, and gives us an amazing atmosphere to help us check off items on those to-do and if not… at least we tried ; )
2. Blue Owl Coffee
Oh Blue Owl, how we love you so!
We have a post on our Instagram about how amazing their coffee shops are! Not only are there two shops located in Old Town and the heart of Lansing, but also a shop on the outskirts of MSU’s campus!
They are another coffee shop you go to when you need to get some work done! They usually offer two sizes, 12oz (regular) and 16oz (absolutely massive, but needed!).
The friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere make it so much easier to enjoy your cup of coffee!
As an avid coffee drinker, this coffee hits a lil’ bit different, meaning they don’t slack on the caffeine, or maybe the 12oz would have been more appropriate… we will never know!
All locations have different hours, but the Old Town location opens at 8:00am and the two others open at 7:00am, all which are perfect for our early risers!
3. Strange Matter Coffee
Another coffee shop with 3 locations!!!
Strange Matter Coffee is another local business that has warmed the hearts of the Greater Lansing folks.
They sell artisan styled coffee and a variety of baked goods, what more can you need?
Since they have been around for a while, they have made ordering, in-store or online, so easy and efficient! They definitely have the primary “amazing coffee shop” rules written down somewhere! Being able to order online makes it so much easier for the grab-and-go on mornings we are running late(which somehow happens every day…)!
They also have their own blends of different flavors of coffee beans that you can order based on your at home Grind Setting… so cool!
They also have different hours among locations, so check the hours out online and see which location fits your schedule best! The location inside of the MSU Union closes at 8:00pm, which is amazing for the night owls or evening workers!
4. The Coffee Barrel
The Coffee Barrel is a little farther from the heart of Lansing, but still a favorite in the Greater Lansing area!
Located in Holt, MI, this coffee shop has so many amazing things inside. Not only do they have delicious drinks, but a large variety of all different styles and flavors or coffee beans/grounds.
Buying your local coffee shops’ beans/grounds is basically like having a local coffee shop in your home! Nothing gets better than that!
Staff is also something that makes a coffee trip so much more enjoyable and they hit that ball out of the park! They have such sweet workers and owners!
For all of our workaholics, the environment is still and often quiet, perfect for a out-of-home environment with homey vibes!
They are open on weekdays from 8:00am – 5:00pm, Saturday 9:00am – 3:00pm, and closed on Sundays!
If you’re looking for some amazing coffee beans/grounds, this is definitely the place for you!
5. The Urban Cup
Tucked away in a little corner on the west side of Grand River road is The Urban Cup!
Three words to describe it would have to be delightful, friendly, and refreshing! The staff was absolutely helpful and nice with the ordering process and when asked for a cute design, they said it would be hard, but still made this adorable flower design to the right!
This little coffee shop may be small, but the experience and environment makes them mighty!
The staff mentioned them and the Soup Spoon Cafe having the same owners, which is another local business that is ridiculously awesome! We love small business owners in Greater Lansing, especially when they create such amazing businesses!
On your next trip to East Lansing or on your way back home, stop at the Urban Cup and pick up some early morning coffee & breakfast or an afternoon sweet treat.
You heard correctly… they have more than coffee! They also offer ice cream, smoothies and craft soda!
They are open on weekdays from 7:30am – 4:00pm and closed on the weekends. Stop by and try it out! Who knows, it may be a hidden gem you’ve been searching for!
6. Hooked
Now don’t get me wrong, pictured to the left is a Hot Cocoa flight, but the coffee has been tasted and is also very delicious! The hot cocoa flights were just so fun, we had to promote them!
Especially if you have friend or family member who isn’t a fan of coffee and wants some flavor variety, this is the place!
They do have coffee flights as well and something really special that is not seen very often, they serve alcohol!
Because they sell alcohol, they are also opened during later hours. They are opened 9:00 am – 7:00pm on Sunday through Tuesday and 9:00am – 10:00pm the rest of the week!
It is hard to find spots that serve coffee, are open late, and serve alcohol, but Hooked is a three-in-one shop!
Not to mention, they are a book store as well! They have so many books and all the genres you can imagine! It is like the world’s ultimate coffee shop. Everything you can want and more!
7. Taste Coffe Co.
Taste… just Taste… nothing else to say!
Just joking, there is so much more to say! Walking into Taste Coffee is like walking into a home. The staff is so friendly, which automatically makes it feel like a safe environment. There is also SO much room and a large amount of seating.
This coffee shop has space for larger gatherings and will still always have enough room for small! Recently seen on social media, they have begun selling food which makes it even more exciting to visit!
They are open every day but Sunday, 7:00am – 4:00pm! If the baked goods, coffee and now lunch isn’t enough, what could be?
The sandwiches on their socials looked delicious and the two sandwiches listed are the Chicken Pesto sandwich and the Bacon Jam sandwich. These sound incredibly delicious and are available after 10:00am!
To go or to stay, Taste coffee is the place to pick. This coffee shop is in Mason, which is on the outskirts of Okemos, but perfect for everyone on the east side of Greater Lansing!
8. Chateau Coffee Co.
Coffee Flights! Coffee Flights! Coffee Flights!
Chateau Coffee Co’s specialty is coffee flights. Every month they have new flavors and the first of every month just got that much better!
Chateau Coffee also has baked goods and lunch items as well. They are located on Waverly Road and are open every day 7:00am – 5:00pm!
Pictured on the left are the February flights from this year and all four flavors were so tasty! They give you the option of hot or cold and then serve it to you.
The Pesto Chicken sandwich isn’t pictured and this blog is about coffee, but that sandwich needs some type of reward! The other food items look just as delicious too!
They have socials, so stay tuned on the coffee flights every month and go in when all four flavors fit you best! Or go every month like us, that seems more rational!
Fun Fact: Chateau Coffee was the winner of our first “Battle of the Businesses: Coffee Edition!” Their supporters are just as awesome as their coffee!
9. Foster Coffee Co.
Nobody should be surprised that Foster Coffee is on this list! It is another “must visit” for Lansing residents!
Fosters’ is loved by so many because of their comforting environment and genuinely amazing staff!
They have seasonal drink menus, apparel and cafe rewards! More points means more rewards and who doesn’t love free coffee!
The Gluten Free Carrot Cake Muffin pictured on the right was a limited edition that was stumbled upon, but boy was it delicious!
They have a location in East Lansing and a location in Owosso! Both have amazing environments and awesome staff! Because they are in different areas, they have different hours, so check out their website for more information!
Foster Coffee has socials and they keep everyone updated on new happenings or new items! Check them out!
10. The Brew Cafe
Along with the awesome atmosphere, space, and coffee, this cafe has so many choices for your tastebuds! With a wide variety of options and a lot of limited time items popping up every now and then, it is hard to stop going and trying the new things they have.
The environment is good for big and small meetings or gatherings and they have a very luminescent and calm vibe to the cafe.
We filmed a video for the “Local Broker Answers…” series at this cafe and it was very inviting and a good place go and get some work done!
Pictured on the left are the sausage, egg, and cheese bagel bombs that are believed to be limited time offerings, but were from another local business in Michigan. Thankfully we got there when we did because they were delicious!
The Brew Cafe is open Monday through Friday 7:00am – 4:00pm and on the weekends, 8:00am – 2:00pm! Located off of Waverley Street, this cafe is awesome to stop and get some work done any day of the week!
Bonus Cafe: Constellation Cat Cafe!!
Is it hard to identify what makes this Cafe so unique?
If you’re an animal person, this is definitely the place for you! You walk in here confidently knowing that you’re only visiting the cats, until one gives you “the eyes” and you’re bound to take one home sooner than later!
And if you aren’t an animal person, that’s okay, they have a wall dividing the cafe and cats! You can still see them through the windows, but do not need to visit them.
They are located on Lake Lansing Road and are open every day, 9:00am – 8:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, 9:00am – 6:00pm on Sunday, and noon – 8:00pm Monday through Thursday!
Go to pet some cats or go to drink some coffee. Better yet, do both! Have a sweet and fluffy time!
You made it!
